The Michael Jackson biopic Michael lands in UAE cinemas this April, tracing his rise from Jackson Five to global superstardom

Michael Jackson’s life is heading to the big screen, with Michael set to release in UAE cinemas on April 22.

The biopic follows the King of Pop from his early days as the standout voice of the Jackson Five to his rise as one of the most influential entertainers in music history. It digs into the making of Michael Jackson, charting the ambition and pressure that shaped a career packed with era-defining moments.

Jaafar Jackson takes on the lead role in his feature film debut, stepping into a story that spans childhood stardom, global fame and the kind of performances that turned songs like “Beat It” and “Billie Jean” into cultural fixtures. The film leans into those early years, when a young performer with a sharp voice and sharper instincts started setting the pace for what pop would become.

The supporting cast includes Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Miles Teller and Colman Domingo, bringing weight to the people and moments around him. The biopic is directed by Antoine Fuqua, known for Training Day and The Equalizer, and it’s written by John Logan, whose credits include Gladiator and The Aviator. Produced Graham King, the name behind Bohemian Rhapsody. Expect a mix of performance and personal story. The film recreates some of Jackson’s early solo work while also focusing on what happened away from the spotlight. The rehearsals, the expectations, the constant push to go bigger, sharper, better.

For many, this is the soundtrack of growing up. For others, it is a chance to see how one artist reshaped pop from the ground up. Either way, when the music starts, it is hard not to recognise the moment.
