Keeping your weekly shop in check just got a whole lot easier with the Essential Goods Prices Platform
The UAE has launched a new digital platform that allows residents to compare the prices of essential goods across major retailers — helping shoppers find the best deals on everyday items.
Introduced by the UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism, the “Essential Goods Prices Platform” is designed to boost transparency and make it easier for residents to manage their grocery spending.
What can you check in the Essential Goods Prices Platform?
The platform covers a wide range of staple items that most households buy regularly. Think cooking oils, eggs, dairy products, rice, sugar, bread, meat, poultry and fish — alongside fresh produce like fruits and vegetables.
In total, more than 30 essential items are included in the first phase, giving users a clear snapshot of price ranges across different supermarkets.

How it works
Prices are updated daily and pulled directly from major retail outlets across the UAE, meaning what you see is as close to real-time as possible.
Users can compare minimum and maximum prices across stores, track how prices differ between locations, and even build a custom shopping basket to find the most cost-effective option.
Why it matters
With the cost of living always top of mind, this platform is all about giving residents more control over their spending.
It also encourages competition between retailers, helping keep prices fair while protecting consumers’ purchasing power.
Beyond that, the initiative forms part of a wider push to create a more transparent and stable retail environment in the UAE — where pricing is monitored closely and shoppers are empowered to make informed decisions.
The bigger picture
This isn’t the UAE’s first move in this space. Authorities have already been using digital systems to monitor essential goods pricing and prevent unjustified increases.
Now, that same level of oversight is being put directly into the hands of consumers.
So whether you’re budgeting, meal prepping, or just trying to save a few dirhams on your weekly shop, this new tool could quickly become your go-to before heading to the supermarket.
