Two new Darb toll gates will launch in Abu Dhabi this May, with Dh4 fees and routes to help avoid traffic
Abu Dhabi is adding two new Darb toll gates, and drivers will start feeling it from early May.
The Integrated Transport Centre has confirmed the rollout, placing the new gates on Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Street in Ghantoot and on Wahat Al Karama Street at the entry and exit points of Sheikh Zayed Street. Both go live on May 4, 2026, and will run around the clock.
Each crossing will cost Dh4, in line with the current Darb system. Some motorists will still get a pass. One vehicle per eligible category remains exempt, including senior citizens, People of Determination, low-income citizens and retired citizens.
The locations are not random. Officials say they based the decision on traffic studies that looked at congestion, daily movement patterns and where drivers can realistically divert. The aim is simple. Keep traffic moving on some of the capital’s busiest roads, especially during peak hours.

If you are looking to dodge the toll, there are options. For the Al Qurm Toll Gate on Wahat Al Karama Street, drivers can switch to Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Street or Arabian Gulf Street. Heading towards Ghantoot, you can reroute via Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Street instead.
This is part of a wider push to keep up with how fast Abu Dhabi is growing. More people, more cars, more pressure on the roads. The ITC says it will keep a close eye on how these new gates perform, tracking usage and making adjustments if needed.
For now, it is another small shift in how the city moves. And one more thing to factor into your daily drive.
