The renowned ‘7 star’ hotel will undergo extensive upgrades over 18 months
It’s been a symbol of uncompromising luxury on Dubai’s hotel scene for more than 25 years, but the Burj Al Arab has now temporarily closed its doors to undergo an exciting restoration.
A statement on the website reads: Jumeirah Burj Al Arab is currently undergoing a carefully phased restoration programme designed to refresh and upgrade the hotel’s iconic decor while preserving its distinctive character. The programme has been developed through long-term planning, following more than 25 years of continuous operation.

The sail-shaped hotel, which first opened in 1999, will be closed for 18 months while its luxurious rooms, restaurants and leisure spaces are transformed. French interior architect Tristan Auer will lead the renovation, bringing the property back to life while preserving its distinctive character and signature opulence.
Speaking of the project, he commented, “Being entrusted with the very first restoration of a property of this calibre in Dubai — the Jumeirah Burj Al Arab, a timeless icon of the region — is a profound privilege. To carry forward, with the utmost dedication, the legacy of such an extraordinary landmark is both an honour and a responsibility.” So, we can’t wait to see what the legendary hotel will look like once the restoration is complete.

During the last 27 years, the hotel has been the resort of choice for a whole host of stars, with suggested former guests including Tom Cruise, David and Victoria Beckham, Bill Gates, and Selena Gomez. Its iconic helipad has also served as the backdrop to some wow-worthy stunts, from the recent Red Bull Racing Car donut spins to the Federer-Agassi tennis match in 2005 and David Guetta’s 17-song DJ set in 2021.
Luxury stays elevating the Jumeirah coastline

While Burj Al Arab is closed for restoration, guests can enjoy elevated stays at Jumeirah’s expansive portfolio of seaside resorts, including Jumeirah Al Naseem, Jumeirah Al Qasr, and the latest addition, Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab.
And this idyllic stretch of sand continues to up the ante. Along the beach from Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab, construction on The Island by Wasl continues to progress, where a trio of Vegas-imports: MGM Grand, Bellagio and Aria will debut in 2028. Beyond that, purveyors of luxury Cheval Blanc are set to make their Middle Eastern debut in 2029 with a resort on Naia, a private island under construction off the coast.
