Alserkal Art Month celebrates the resilience of the region’s art scene with five weekends of exhibitions, talks and creative happenings
If you ever needed an excuse to spend more time at Alserkal Avenue, this is it. The Al Quoz cultural hotspot is launching Alserkal Art Month, a new programme spanning the next five weekends.
Running from April 18 to May 18, Alserkal Art Month celebrates the resilience of the region’s art scene. What was once Art Week has grown into a month-long programme, with five weekends of exhibitions, talks and all things art.
The city’s creative community will be able to come together and engage in dialogue and connections, creating the perfect reprieve during challenging times.
The programme, which is ever-evolving, is inspired by artist Shilpa Gupta’s work “Still They Know Not What I Dream”. The installation was commissioned by Alserkal Art Foundation and supported by Ishara Art Foundation. It takes centre stage in The Yard at the venue as part of another series of public art commissions by Fatoş Ütsek called Between a Beach and a Slope.
So, what can you expect over the five weekends?
A wealth of new exhibitions at Alserkal’s contemporary art galleries, public art commissions, majlis talks, space takeovers and more. Feeling inspired? Dive into workshops happening throughout the programme.
During Alserkal Art Month, the Foundation will host reading groups by artist Chafa Ghaddar, open studios with Alla Abdunabi and Maryam Ahli, and a performance by Asareh Ebrahimpour.

On April 25, a curated group exhibition will be launched called Deja Vu featuring 18 of the UAE’s leading contemporary art galleries. It inspired the absurdity of repetitious acts.
From May 12 to 17, The Yard will spring to life with Moving – a four-day programme of moving image works you’ll want to check out.

Speaking on Alserkal Art Month, Vilma Jurkute, Executive Director of Alserkal, said, “Alserkal Art Month is a tribute to the resilience and fortitude of the UAE’s arts ecosystem and to the people who sustain it. Rooted in shared values, this month-long programme creates space for collaboration, dialogue and exchange at a time when that feels especially important.”
Basmah El Bittar, Director of Alserkal Avenue, added, “We are proud of the rigour and care that has gone into this programme and of how our community has come together and continued to produce ambitious work.”
Further details about the programme for each weekend will be shared on Alserkal Avenue’s Instagram channel every Monday. Stay in the know on @alserkalofficial and @alserkalavenue.
