Abu Dhabi residents can enjoy free museum access for three days during International Museum Day celebrations across the capital this May

Your weekend plans just got a lot more cultured. To celebrate International Museum Day, Abu Dhabi is opening the doors to some of its biggest cultural landmarks for free from Friday May 16 to Sunday May 18. That means three days of gallery hopping, heritage deep dives and air-conditioned exploring without spending a dirham. The free entry initiative includes a mix of historic sites and museums across Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. It gives residents and visitors a chance to revisit old favourites or finally tick a few spots off the list.

Louvre Abu Dhabi

What’s On archive

At Louvre Abu Dhabi, expect everything from ancient artefacts and Renaissance paintings to contemporary installations sitting beneath Jean Nouvel’s famous floating dome. It remains one of the capital’s most impressive places to spend an afternoon, whether you are there for the art or just the atmosphere.

Over on Saadiyat Island, Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi and Zayed National Museum are also included in the celebration. Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi takes visitors through billions of years of natural history. While Zayed National Museum explores the story of the UAE and the legacy of the country’s Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

If heritage sites are more your thing, visit Qasr Al Hosn, Al Maqta’a Museum, Delma Museum and Al Ain Museum. They offer a closer look at the UAE’s past. From traditional life and archaeological discoveries to the stories that shaped Abu Dhabi into the city it is today.
