Abu Dhabi hosts a free 5km community run at Wahat AlKarama this April, bringing residents together for a shared morning outdoors
Abu Dhabi is lacing up for a run that feels a little bigger than just clocking kilometres. On Saturday April 18, the capital will host Run for the Nation, a free 5km community run that starts at Wahat AlKarama at 8am. Organised by Abu Dhabi Sports Council in partnership with Zayed Charity Run, the event invites everyone to show up, step out and move together.
This is not one for chasing personal bests or racing strangers to the finish line. You can run it, walk it or take it slow with friends. The point is simply to be there. Families, first-timers, seasoned runners, kids in sneakers that are slightly too big, everyone has a place on this route.
There is something quietly powerful about the setting too. Wahat AlKarama carries a sense of reflection, and on this morning it becomes the starting point for something shared. People from different backgrounds, cultures and walks of life moving in the same direction, even if just for five kilometres.
The message behind the run is simple. Community matters. The UAE’s story is built by the people who live here, work here and call it home. This event leans into that idea, turning it into something you can actually take part in.
It is also a moment to say thank you. To frontline workers, to families, to the people who keep things going behind the scenes. Every step becomes a small nod to that effort. If you have been meaning to get moving again, or just want a reason to be out early on a Saturday, this is a good one.
