Instagram users are reporting a huge loss of followers recently
Instagram is both a productivity black hole and one of the most useful discovery tools ever created. You can lose two hours watching strangers organise their fridge, but also find the exact hidden restaurant in Tokyo, visa tips for moving abroad, or the best beach club in Dubai in under five minutes. However many instagram users have noticed a significant drop in followers and that’s due to a huge clear out that was done by Instagram itself.
Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, came onto his stories to reveal what exactly happened and he said: “What happened is we regularly remove accounts that are either very very long inactive or bots and it usually doesn’t happen so many accounts at once, but this happened very quickly this week. Either I think we should make sure that we do it on a more regular basis or we should make sure that we give a heads up next time so I apologise for the confusion”

“I know a lot of people are nervous about this but it’s not going to affect your reach. The accounts that are no longer on instagram are inactive for a very very long time or are actual bots. It’s not actual real followers that you have lost and therefor it won’t actually affect how many people you reach when you post”
“We’ll try to manage it more responsibly in the future”
