The weather in the UAE has seen rain, winds and unpredictable weather for the last week and it’s set to continue
If you were hoping the recent bout of unpredictable weather was behind us, think again. According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), unsettled conditions are expected to continue across the UAE through to Sunday, bringing a mix of dust, strong winds, rough seas and even a chance of light rain.
The changeable weather is being driven by an extension of a surface low-pressure system, combined with an upper-air low-pressure system — a combination that typically leads to instability across the region.
What to expect today
The UAE weather today will be partly cloudy to cloudy at times, with a slight dip in temperatures — particularly across western parts of the country. Fresh to strong north-westerly winds are expected to pick up, which could lead to blowing dust and sand, reducing visibility in exposed areas. If you’re heading to the coast, take note: sea conditions in the Arabian Gulf are forecast to be rough to very rough.
Looking ahead to the weekend
From Thursday into Friday, skies will clear slightly, with fair to partly cloudy conditions expected. However, humidity levels will increase overnight and into the early morning, raising the likelihood of fog or mist in coastal and internal areas — something to factor into your commute.
By Saturday and Sunday, cloud cover is set to increase again, particularly across northern and coastal regions. There’s also a chance of light rainfall as we head into the latter part of the weekend. Temperatures will gradually rise, but shifting winds are expected to strengthen once more, with sea conditions turning rough again by Sunday evening.
