Some nice news coming for Uber in the UAE today
If you needed another reason to show a little extra kindness on your next ride, this might be it. Ride-hailing giant Uber is set to introduce a tip-matching initiative in the UAE, meaning every dirham you tip could go even further for your driver until March 31.
So, how does it work?
The concept is simple: when riders leave a Dhs10 tip or more after a journey, Uber will match that amount — effectively doubling what drivers receive, at no additional cost to the customer. The initiative is designed to directly boost driver earnings during this uncertain time in the UAE. It’s until March 31, so you’ve got less than a week to help make a difference.
A growing trend in the UAE
The move follows a similar campaign rolled out by Careem earlier this year, where tips of Dhs10 or more were also matched dirham-for-dirham during Ramadan — doubling captains’ earnings overnight. That initiative proved hugely popular, giving residents an easy way to support drivers while reinforcing the UAE’s culture of giving during the Holy Month.
Why it matters
For many drivers, tips aren’t just a bonus, they can make a meaningful difference to day-to-day income. By matching tips, Uber is effectively turning small gestures into something far more impactful. It also taps into a wider shift in the UAE towards digital, in-app tipping as the country moves closer to a largely cashless economy.
Next time you hop out of an Uber, that quick tap to add a tip might just go twice as far — for both you and your driver.
