The cooler UAE weather is no longer on its way… it’s officially here
As of mid-January, the country has entered the coldest phase of winter, with the UAE weather continuing to dip, especially during the early mornings and evenings.
Dubai is now experiencing the peak of its winter season, with the coldest stretch running between January 10 and 22. This period is traditionally known as Dur Al Sittin, a time associated with the chilliest days and nights of the year.
What is Dur Al Sittin?
Dur Al Sittin is a well-known winter phase in the UAE calendar. Locals associate it with cold mornings and cooler evenings and noticeably colder nights. While winters in Dubai are usually mild, this period often brings the lowest temperatures of the season, particularly before sunrise and after sunset.
Cooler temperatures already felt
The colder conditions won’t come as a surprise to many as just weeks ago, parts of Dubai saw temperatures drop to around 13°C following rainfall across the UAE. That weather offered a glimpse of winter in the city, but conditions this week are expected to feel even colder.
According to the National Centre of Meteorology, temperatures in some parts of the country have dropped sharply, with mountain and inland areas seeing readings below 10°C.
How cold will it get?
While daytime temperatures remain pleasant, mornings and evenings are feeling significantly colder than usual.
Here’s what to expect during this peak winter period:

Early-morning temperatures in desert and inland areas falling to around 5°C or lower

Make the most of the cooler weather
The upside? This is the perfect time to enjoy winter in the UAE. Think cosy cafés, long indoor lunches and relaxed evenings out. Outdoor plans are best saved for the daytime, as temperatures are dropping quickly once the sun goes down.
Top tip: Don’t forget to pack a jumper, and maybe a jacket too.
