The updates you need during this stormy weather in the UAE

A powerful storm system that swept across the UAE last night (March 27) has caused widespread disruption, with heavy rain, strong winds and thunderstorms impacting daily life across the country. From flooded roads to delayed flights, here’s what residents need to know regarding the UAE weather.

Flooded roads

Overnight downpours have led to significant flooding across parts of Dubai and beyond, with major roads left waterlogged and difficult to navigate. Emergency crews were deployed early this morning to deal with stranded vehicles and clear affected areas.

Authorities have warned that conditions remain unstable, with more rain expected into the evening.

According to The National the traffic disruptions are as follows:

  • main roads, including Sheikh Zayed Road through Dubai and the E11 to Abu Dhabi, are largely clear, but many motorway slip roads are waterlogged and closed
  • the road to Jebel Ali Freezone, in the direction of Abu Dhabi, has a heavy accumulation of water
  • Al Quoz has heavy standing water on the internal roads
  • streets around Mall of the Emirates are partially flooded
  • the Al Jamayel Street tunnel connecting Dubai Marina to the eastern suburbs of Jumeirah Park and Jebel Ali appears to be waterlogged
  • the live traffic tracker on Google shows dark red in the Al Fardan Metro and Arenco Tower area of Media City, suggesting slip roads from Sheikh Zayed Road are waterlogged
  • the main road into The Greens looks heavily-waterlogged, as does First Al Khail near Saudi German Hospital
  • Dubai Eye radio is reporting a number of cars floating in heavy flood waters, and that the low-lying Dubai Investment Park neighbourhood is ‘impassable’
