Measuring 68km, the Fourth Federal Corridor project will link Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman via a new 6 – 8 lane highway
Big changes are coming to the UAE’s road network, and they could make your daily commute a whole lot smoother.
New plans for a Dhs6 billion motorway, first announced back in November 2025, have been revealed during the first 2026 meeting of the UAE Infrastructure and Housing Council and reported by state news agency, wam. Part of ambitious plans to upgrade the country’s transport infrastructure and tackle congestion, the project is known as the Fourth Federal Corridor.
The new Dhs6 billion motorway will stretch approximately 68 kilometres, linking Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman with a major new highway featuring between six and eight lanes in each direction. Add to that 10 major intersections and four flyovers, and you’re looking at one of the UAE’s most significant road developments to date.
The goal is simple: ease congestion, improve traffic flow, and make getting between emirates faster and more efficient. With daily commutes on the rise, particularly between Dubai and the Northern Emirates, this project is expected to be a game-changer.
But that’s not all. Alongside the new motorway, plans are also underway to boost public transport connections across Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman. A proposed network of 10 key routes will include Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems, complete with dedicated lanes and direct links to metro stations and major city hubs.
Although full details weren’t given – including timelines on construction and the confirmed route map, what we do know is that the Fourth Federal Corridor will add to the UAE’s three existing inter-emirates motorways: Sheikh Zayed Road/ Al Ittihad Road (the E11), Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road (E311); and Emirates Road (E611).
It’s all part of a wider strategy to reduce reliance on private cars, cut down travel times, and create a more seamless mobility experience across the UAE.
