The first part of the Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project will see travel time cut from 10 minutes to just two minutes
Great news for those who regularly travel around Trade Centre Area: travel time is set to be slashed at Trade Centre Roundabout with the opening of two new bridges. The bridges, part of the Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project, will now serve traffic from 2nd December Street towards Sheikh Rashid Road and Al Majlis Street, providing two lanes in both directions.
Stretching 2,000 metres between them, the bridges will ease traffic flow in the area, reducing journey time from 2nd December Street to Al Majlis Street, Al Mustaqbal Street, and Zabeel Palace Street from 10 minutes to just 2 minutes.
Accommodating up to 6,000 vehicles per hour, it’s also set to help alleviate traffic in this busy part of the city, allowing traffic to move quickly and more seamlessly at the Trade Centre Roundabout.
The wider Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project is part of the Road and Transport Authority (RTA)’s continued work to improve Dubai’s roads and ease traffic across the city. It includes the construction of five bridges in total, while also upgrading the existing roundabout. Enhancing traffic flow at one of the major intersections in Dubai, where Sheikh Zayed Road links with five key streets, the Dhs696 million project will ease traffic movement across Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, Sheikh Rashid Road, 2nd December Street, Zabeel Palace Street, and Al Majlis Street.
As per HE Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of the RTA, work on the project is progressing at a “pace faster than the approved schedule,” and will see a third bridge, linking Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, open in March. reflecting RTA’s commitment to facilitating residents’ mobility. Overall project completion has reached nearly 50% and will initiate a phased opening. Two further bridges are set to open in October 2026, serving traffic movement from Sheikh Rashid Road and Al Majlis Street towards 2nd December Street.”
Upon completion, the project will reduce average delay at the intersection from 12 minutes to 90 seconds and cut journey time for traffic heading from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street from six minutes to just one minute.
More key developments
After the five bridges are complete, more development in the Trade Centre area will see traffic flow further improved. The master development also includes the development of Al Mustaqbal Street, extending from its intersection with Zabeel Palace Street to Financial Centre Street. It will see the construction of three tunnels totalling 1,100 metres, a new 400m bridge with two lanes, as well as the widening of Al Mustaqbal Street from three to four lanes in both directions.
