Parkin will be rolled out at several key locations, although the first two hours will remain free parking

If you shop at Spinneys or Waitrose, take note: some locations are set to introduce paid parking.

Announced on Wednesday January 7, six key Spinneys and Waitrose will introduce paid parking through a partnership with Dubai’s Parkin public parking system. The branches it affects are four Spinneys outlets: Trade Centre Road in Karama, Motor City, Al Meydan and Umm Suqeim; and two Waitrose stores: Motor City and Al Thanya.

But it’s not all bad news. Those heading out on their grocery run will get two hours of parking for free, with hourly tariffs in place thereafter.

The introduction of paid parking at selected Spinneys and Waitrose stores looks to help improve traffic flow in key areas, and prevent people from overusing the car parks when they’re not shopping in store. Commenting on the announcement, Spinneys CEO Sunil Kumar said the move looks to ensure ‘easy, reliable access to our stores’, describing it as “a vital part of delivering a great shopping experience for every customer.”

Parkin, which now manages over 200,000 parking spaces across Dubai per The National, is all handled through a mobile app, with everything from entry to payment handled in the app.
