Picture this: you’re driving through heavy rain in Dubai, fully focused on the road and dodging flooded patches – only to realise later that you’ve lost your licence plate. It can happen to anyone, and it’s something you won’t even notice unless you actually look.
If you find yourself in this situation, especially now as heavy rain and thunderstorms are lashing the UAE, don’t panic. Dubai Police shared the process to report the issue via their official social media X. And it’s easier than you think.

The Dubai Police also shared a few safety tips and guidelines for drivers during the rain:
- Adhere to reducing speed.
- Maintain a sufficient safety distance between vehicles to avoid accidents.
- Continuously monitor the road and surrounding vehicles, especially when reducing speed.
- Avoid water puddles that may affect vehicle stability.
- Use brakes gradually to prevent skidding.
- Ensure windscreen wipers are operating to guarantee clear visibility while driving.
Here are the safety tips laid out by the NCEMA to follow to protect your personal safety and reduce risks:
- Monitor weather forecasts: Scan weather reports to be aware of the latest updates so you won’t get caught unprepared.
- Seek shelter: NCEMA recommend staying indoors in a secure, enclosed spaces to avoid the risk of lightening strikes
- Avoid open areas: Don’t go out into open spaces such as parks, fields or bodies of water during thunderstorms, as the risk of being hit by lightning increases in such areas.
- Stay away from metal objects: Stay clear of electric poles, fences and umbrellas, as this exposes you to lightning strikes.
- Do not use phones: Avoid using phones during thunderstorms, as lightning can damage devices and can pose a risk of injury to users.
- Secure outdoor furniture: Secure outdoor furniture and moveable items, or bring them indoors to prevent damage.
- Stay away from water sources: Avoid going near bodies of water, as lightning can cause electrical currents.
- Prepare emergency supplies: Have flashlights, spare batteries, food and water prepared in case of power outages or other emergencies.
