A powerful tale of ambition, revenge and fate with a live orchestra and choir

To be there, or not to be there? That won’t be the question for theatre fans when it comes to the timeless works of William Shakespeare. Especially one that is inspired by one of his most famous plays – Hamlet.

This is not just another showcase by the world’s most celebrated playwright, it’s put together in the form of a flamenco ballet with more than thirty artists taking the stage. Movement replaces words, and every gesture reflects the eternal human conflict between reason and passion.

And their mesmerising moves will be backed by a live orchestra, and the Orfeón Donostiarra choir. Together they merge to create a rare artistic synthesis — a collision of classical and contemporary worlds, of light and shadow, silence and rhythm.

The performance is directed by the acclaimed Spanish choreographer Jesús Herrera. His production blends the philosophical depth of Shakespeare with the primal energy of flamenco, turning a story of love, betrayal, and madness into a hypnotic theatrical experience.

Don’t consider it an adaptation, just a new interpretation of Shakespeare’s iconic tragedy.

Herrera puts a fresh spin on the classic tragedy, taking audiences inside Hamlet’s head as he grapples with grief, doubt and anger. Reframed for today’s world, the Prince of Denmark feels less like a distant royal and more like a very human figure caught between duty, love and the truth. He added, “Hamlet is the mirror of the human soul, and flamenco is its cry.”
