A fleet of driverless taxis has launched on Yas Island, offering free rides for a month between major attractions
Abu Dhabi’s driverless future just took another step forward. A new fleet of driverless taxis has launched on Yas Island, and for the first month the rides are free.
Five robotaxis operated by Autogo, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi technology company K2, are now running across Yas Island after a series of successful trials. The best news is that residents can book free rides until April 12. The taxis operate at Level 4 autonomy, which means the vehicles drive themselves without human intervention under specific conditions. The project is part of Abu Dhabi’s wider plan to build a smart, future-focused transport network that leans into autonomous technology.
Supervised by the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council, the Department of Municipalities and Transport’s @ad_mobility has expanded commercial operations for autonomous taxis on Yas Island, in cooperation with Apollo Go and Autogo, enhancing the emirate’s smart mobility solutions. pic.twitter.com/ZKIS4H5LTw

The rollout is being delivered by the Integrated Transport Centre, also known as Abu Dhabi Mobility, in partnership with Apollo Go, a subsidiary of Chinese tech giant Baidu.
For now, the robotaxis run along set routes across Yas Island, connecting major attractions and hotels. Stops include W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island, Yas Marina, Yas Mall, Ikea, Ferrari World, Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi, Etihad Arena and Yas Park North.
The service is expected to expand in the next phase to Al Reem Island, Al Maryah Island and Saadiyat Island.
Abu Dhabi has been steadily testing autonomous transport in recent years. In November, robotaxi services operated by Uber and WeRide also launched in the capital following private trials, making the city one of the first outside the US to host fully driverless rides on the Uber platform.
How to book
Rides can be booked through the AutoGo smart application, available on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
Download the app, select your pickup and drop-off point from the Yas Island route, and request your robotaxi. For now, the ride won’t cost you a dirham.
