Dubai steps in to support stray animals across the city
If you’ve spent time in Dubai’s neighbourhoods or parks, chances are you’ve spotted a stray cat or two. Many of us already try to help in small ways, from leaving out food to keeping an eye on them. Now the city is stepping in too, with a new programme designed to feed stray animals in a more organised and responsible way.
Meet the Ehsan Stations
Dubai Municipality has rolled out a new initiative called Ehsan Stations – a network of smart feeding devices designed specifically for stray animals in Dubai. The stations use AI technology to identify stray cats and other animals before dispensing food, helping ensure feeding happens in a controlled and responsible way. The goal is to provide reliable food sources while reducing random feeding in parks, streets, and public spaces.
Where you’ll find them
The first phase will see 12 stations installed across Dubai. Ten will be placed in public parks, while two will be located in facilities operated by Dubai Holding. This pilot phase will allow the municipality to monitor how the stations perform, collect data, and improve the system before expanding it further across the emirate.

How the stations work
The stations are powered by an AI system that can recognise stray animals and gather data about feeding patterns. The project also encourages recycling and supports a more organised way of feeding animals. By centralising feeding locations, the programme aims to protect public health, maintain clean public spaces, and support biodiversity across the city.
Part of a bigger animal welfare plan
The initiative works alongside Dubai Municipality’s existing Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) and Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) programmes. These programmes involve safely collecting stray animals, neutering and vaccinating them, and then returning them to their original areas if they pose no risk. Some animals are also made available for adoption through Dubai Municipality’s website. Residents are encouraged to care responsibly for their own pets and report any concerns about stray animals by calling 800900.
