Dubai is taking beach safety to the next level with the rollout of a new beach safety system
Dubai Municipality has announced the rollout of a new technology-driven safety system across its public beaches, combining advanced aquatic rescue robots with aerial water-rescue drones.
At the heart of the system is a next-generation aquatic rescue robot designed to support lifeguard teams during emergencies. The remote-controlled device can travel at speeds up to five times faster than a lifeguard swimming to a rescue, and can operate within a one-kilometre line of sight.
Built to perform even in challenging sea conditions, the robot can tow up to 500 kilograms, allowing it to quickly reach swimmers in distress and provide immediate assistance while reducing the physical risk to lifeguards during the initial rescue phase.
Working alongside the aquatic robot is a water-rescue drone, an aerial device designed to enhance monitoring and coordination along Dubai’s coastline. Often described as a “flying lifebuoy”, the drone can be deployed rapidly, fly directly to the location of an incident, and land on the water to provide buoyancy support for swimmers in difficulty.

Equipped with a live-feed camera, the drone transmits real-time visuals to lifeguard teams on the ground, helping them detect incidents faster, assess risks more accurately, and coordinate rescue operations with greater efficiency.
Together, the aquatic robot and rescue drone form part of an integrated safety framework supported by trained lifeguards, continuous beach monitoring, and centralised control systems. The combination of air and water-based rescue technology allows Dubai Municipality to respond more quickly across wide stretches of coastline, particularly during complex or time-critical incidents.
Dubai Municipality oversees public beaches across the emirate, including Umm Suqeim 1 Night Beach, Jumeirah 3 Night Beach, Jumeirah 1 Beach, Jumeirah 2 Beach, and Al Mamzar.
