The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority in the UAE has announced a change to their National Early Warning System Sound alerts. If you live in the UAE and have a cellular provider from e&, du or Virgin, here’s what you need to know.

The official post states that from 9am to 10.30pm the alert will be a ‘high tone’ and ‘standard tone for end of alert.’

From 10.30pm to 9am, it will be a standard text message tone for both alert and standard end of alert.

The announcement was made on Monday, March 9, 2026 via the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority official X (previously, Twitter) account.

The NCEMA added that ‘the system will remain fully operational to ensure public security alerts.’

The alerts are an essential component of the national preparedness framework and the system issues timely alerts. The public is urged to follow official instructions to ensure safety.

*Dear UAE, if this past week has felt a little harder than most, know that you are not alone*

What is the UAE National Early Warning System Sound?

The National Early Warning System Sound is basically the official alert tone or siren that the UAE uses to warn residents of emergencies.

The warning messages you receive will direct you to seek immediate shelter in the closest secure building, and to steer away from windows, doors and open areas.

A follow-up safety message is usually also issued out to thank you for your cooperation, to reassure that the situation is currently safe and normal activities may resume while continuing to remain cautious and take necessary precaution.

New law focusing on public safety across Dubai has been announced

On March 10, 2026, Dubai also announced a new public safety law issued by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE. It aims to strengthen safety standards in public places, events and venues, while also encouraging stronger community awareness around safety rules.
