18 Dubai neighbourhoods are seeing travel time reduce by 40% with this RTA project

The RTA is back improving life for Dubai drivers

If you live in one of these areas, you’re going to see a significant improvement to your commute time to and from work. The RTA Road Connections Project is cutting traffic in many Dubai residential areas. It took place in phases as to minimise disruptions however it is now complete. The upgrades span 13km.

Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of Roads at RTA Dubai, said to Gulf News that the new connections improve road connectivity and facilitate vehicle access to and from residential areas through the paving of previously unpaved roads. This has improved traffic flow and reduced journey times by up to 40 per cent in those locations, while providing road users with a smoother and safer driving experience.

The following neighbourhoods are benefitting from improvements:

  • Al Khawaneej 1
  • Al Barsha South 1
  • Nad Shamma
  • Jumeirah 1
  • Za’abeel 1
  • Al Rashidiya,
  • Muhaisnah 1
  • Al Barsha 1
  • Al Hudaiba
  • Al Quoz 1
  • Al Quoz 3
  • Al Satwa
  • Al Twar 1
  • Mirdif
  • Umm Ramool
  • Umm Suqeim 1
  • Al Mizhar 1
  • Al Mizhar 2

So if you’re feeling like your travel home from work is going a little quicker, this could be the reason why.

The UAE also revealed plans for a new motorway connecting Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. The plans for a Dhs6 billion motorway, first announced back in November 2025, were revealed during the first 2026 meeting of the UAE Infrastructure and Housing Council and reported by state news agency, wam. Part of ambitious plans to upgrade the country’s transport infrastructure and tackle congestion, the project is known as the Fourth Federal Corridor.
