UAE schools will have a new approach to assessments for distance learning
The UAE’s Ministry of Education has confirmed a new approach to assessing certain subjects in UAE schools, delivered through distance learning, according to Gulf News, and importantly, students’ final results won’t be affected.

What’s changing?
The update applies to subjects in UAE schools classified under the ‘B group’ within the remote learning framework. The revised system is designed to ensure fair and balanced evaluation while maintaining academic standards during periods of distance learning.
Two categories of subjects
Under the new structure, subjects will now fall into two distinct categories:
Subjects not assessed in term three
For some subjects, there will be no assessments during the third academic term due to the suspension of in-person teaching. Instead, final grades will be calculated based on students’ performance across the first and second terms.
Subjects continuing as normal
Other subjects will continue to be assessed, with no major changes to the process. Students will be evaluated through ongoing coursework such as activities, projects and assignments. These will be conducted flexibly by teachers and recorded through approved learning management systems.

Why the change?
According to the Ministry, the move is designed to support students during remote learning while ensuring continuity in education. The aim is to avoid disadvantaging learners while still upholding academic standards.
