The city of Kalba and Khorfakkan is getting a glow up
Love visiting Sharjah? You’ll have more reasons to visit after these unique infrastructure projects announced by HH Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, are complete.
The projects in Kalba and Khorfakkan were announced by the Ruler of Sharjah during the Direct Line programme, and they include some iconic new landmarks. It includes a one-of-a-kind rose water fountain roundabout, a grand clock tower, and a tree-planting initiative.
He stated that Khorfakkan has the natural features needed for a number of impressive and beautiful development projects that are currently being worked on to improve the lives of residents and enhance the experience for visitors.

Kalba Roundabout
Visitors arriving in the city of Kalba from the west will be greeted by a new roundabout featuring a unique fountain. What’s unique about it? Well, the fountain will spray rose water, which in turn will fill the air with a beautiful, fragrant scent.
Pedestrians will be able to reach the centre of the roundabout via a dedicated underground tunnel where they can stroll and soak in the aromatic ambiance away from traffic.
Khorfakkan’s green project
Dubai isn’t the only city in the UAE that wants to go green, Sharjah too is following suite, and there’s no better place to do it than Khorfakkan.
During the meeting, the Ruler of Sharjah stated that the project will include the planting of special trees that will help make the city’s atmosphere cool. He stated, “God willing, the people of Khor Fakkan will be happy, and those who visit it will be happy”.
The move also highlights Sharjah’s commitment to environmental sustainability and public comfort.
Protected reserve on Al Qalqali Beach
The Sharjah Ruler also highlighted plans for a protected reserve along Al Qalqali Beach which is home to a rare species of lizard found exclusively in the area. He confirmed that the lizard is recognised as unique to Khorfakkan, and the protection of it reflects the emirate’s strong commitment to protecting its natural heritage.
He elaborated that given their global rarity, strict protections have been put in place, including a prohibition on public access. People will still be able to enjoy the surrounding area with plans in place to create elevated seating areas along the nearby slopes. The setting will offer a scenic vantage point while keeping both visitors and lizards safe.
Currently, a completion date has not been announced, but we will be keeping our eyes open for updates.
