Wondering why your friend got the National Warning System (EWS) alert on your phone, but you didn’t? Don’t worry. Your phone works just fine, and your number wasn’t skipped.
It’s because the EWS operates on geographic location. Which means alerts are only sent to the concerned areas.
According to Emirates News, the missile threat alert that is sent out is based on the location of the hazard, the nature of the hazard and the extent of its impact.

This is why some locations may receive the alert regarding an attack, while others won’t, as the incident won’t directly affect them. So don’t worry, it is not a system error. On the contrary, it actually reflects its accuracy, alerting only the groups within the vicinity of the emergency.

Alert receipt will also vary based on where the device is located when the alert is issued and on your emergency alert settings. We know the alert sounds alarming, but during this time, it is highly suggested you leave the alerts on so you can be warned during an emergency situation.

What is the UAE National Early Warning System Sound?
The National Early Warning System sound is basically the official alert tone that the UAE uses to warn residents of emergencies.
The warning messages you receive will direct you to seek immediate shelter in the closest secure building and to steer away from windows, doors and open areas.
A follow-up safety message is usually also issued to thank you for your cooperation, to reassure you that the situation is currently safe and normal activities may resume while continuing to remain cautious and take necessary precautions.
Earlier in March, a change was announced to the warning system. If you want to stay in the know, head here.
