As Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) continues to make progress on developments across the city, two new bridges have just opened as part of the Oud Maitha and Al Asayel Streets Development Project.
The first bridge carries vehicles from Al Asayel Street towards Al Wasl Club Street, while the second connects drivers from Al Asayel Street to Al Khail Road in the direction of Business Bay Crossing.
You can see what that looks like here:
The newly inaugurated bridges form part of the wider Sheikh Rashid Corridor Development Project, which aims to streamline traffic between key districts.
More to come
According to Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at the RTA, the development is progressing rapidly, with 72 per cent of the overall project already completed. A tunnel, which will serve traffic from Dubai-Al Ain Road towards Oud Maitha service road is around 70% complete, while additional bridges and road expansions are currently underway and are expected to open in the third quarter of the year.
The project is designed to support Dubai’s rapid growth and improve access between several major neighbourhoods, including Za’abeel, Al Jaddaf, Oud Maitha and Umm Hurair. It will also benefit traffic heading to important destinations such as Latifa Hospital and Al Wasl Club.

Once complete, the improvements will significantly boost road capacity. Traffic flow on Oud Maitha Street will increase from 10,400 vehicles per hour in both directions to 15,600 vehicles per hour. Even better news for commuters: average travel times through the area are expected to drop dramatically, from around 20 minutes to just five minutes.
Beyond the newly opened bridges, the wider project includes upgrades to four major intersections, new tunnels stretching 4.3 kilometres, and around 14 kilometres of improved roadways.
