Dubai Marathon celebrates 25 years with a sunrise race through the emirate’s most iconic landmarks
One of the world’s fastest marathons is back. From PB-friendly roads to unbeatable city views, the Dubai Marathon returns before sunrise on February 1, 2026, when the city’s streets belong to runners.
Car tyres give way to trainers and landmarks become markers as the Dubai Marathon celebrates its 25th edition. First staged in 1998, the race has grown into one of the region’s most established long-distance events, holding World Athletics Gold Label status and earning a global reputation for speed — all set against Dubai’s awe-inspiring architecture.
The route
The 42.195km race begins near Madinat Jumeirah before heading along Al Sufouh Road and onto Jumeirah Beach Road. The layout is famously flat, with wide roads, long straights and minimal turns – ideal conditions for both personal bests and elite-level performances.
Dubai’s landmarks line the course. The Burj Al Arab is the standout, rising above the route and reappearing at several points along the way. Nearby, the wave-like Jumeirah Beach Hotel frames the coastline, with glimpses of the Arabian Gulf along the palm-lined roads.
Runners pass close to the entrance of Palm Jumeirah, while further along the scenery shifts as Downtown Dubai comes into view, anchored by the Burj Khalifa on the horizon.

Men: Bute Gemechu – 2:04:51
Women: Bedatu Hirpa – 2:18:27
The rewards
Both the men’s and women’s champions will take home USD 80,000 (approx. Dhs293,800), with prize money paid down to 10th place – making it one of the most generous purses on the international marathon circuit.
