Where a young chef leads with heart, creativity and craft, and every plate tells a story
We walked into Savryn Dubai curious and left completely won over. This is Chef Shehab Medhat’s space, and you feel it instantly – the passion, creativity and hands-on presence he brings to the counter. The dishes arrive like pieces of art, beautifully composed, then surprise you by tasting even better than they look. Tucked away in Jumeirah 1, Savryn feels like a secret you’ll want to share, whether you’re planning a relaxed night with friends, a family celebration or a date that calls for something intimate and memorable, with the chef in full flow just a few seats away.
The vibe
Savryn nails that low-key vibe, giving it a cosy feel with just a hint of mystery. Billowing red curtains, soft lighting and ostrich-feather lamps frame the room, adding a chic yet warm touch. The space is intimate, and that’s the point – every seat feels close to the chef in action, letting you watch the magic unfold up close.
The food

The experience is shaped by Chef Shehab Medhat, and you feel his creativity from the first bite. The menu travels across Africa – Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania, South Africa – with each dish arriving alongside a short story card and an explanation from the chef himself. We’d recommend the 10-course tasting menu, designed for sharing, foodie converdation and discovery. Standouts include the salmon tartare with Somali xawaash, the playful “Foie Gras Who?” chicken liver mousse, and the outstanding Ostrich Sambousek, crisp on the outside with deeply flavoured meat inside. Mains continue the journey, from slow-cooked Golden Ribs inspired by Zanzibar spice routes to Te Oyoo Ten, where lamb, corn polenta, plantain and Ghanaian shito come together perfectly. Desserts are just as creative, especially the tomato finale that looks one way and tastes entirely another.
The drinks
The drinks menu complements the food beautifully, with pairings that highlight the spice-led flavours without overpowering them. We tried a few standout mocktails, including the Ruby Basil – red basil, hibiscus and coconut foam – which was practically art in a glass, Soblo with hibiscus, pineapple, black pepper and ginger, and the Sweet Figs Iced Tea, a refreshing mix of figs, rosemary, lime cascara and rooibos tea. Cocktails worth exploring include the Lamuji, Champan and Papaya, each bringing its own playful twist to the table.
What’s on the bill
The 10-course tasting menu is priced at Dhs465 per person.
