Don’t let this ticket scam ruin your plans in Dubai

Dubai’s calendar is packed with concerts and events in the coming months, and we’re all itching to grab our tickets. But before you hit ‘buy’, there’s a crucial warning on ticket scams you need to know about.

Dubai Police have issued an official warning to members of the public with regard to scams involving fake tickets for concerts, events and even travel.

The authority has urged buyers to only purchase tickets for concerts, entertainment events, sporting activities and travel through official and authorised platforms. The warning was issued by the Anti-Fraud Centre at the General Department of Criminal Investigation as part of the ongoing #BewareOfFraud campaign led by Dubai Police.

The Dubai Police detailed that a number of scammers are using fake websites and unverified social media pages to promote nonexistent tickets, taking advantage of high demand and limited availability. The platforms may look legit and often imitate the names or branding of well-known organisers and official entities – so you need to be vigilant.

When confirming the purchase, customers are typically asked to transfer money or enter bank card details. But after the transaction has been completed, the ticket is never issued, or worse – more than the required amount will be withdrawn from their bank accounts.

To avoid losing out on your hard-earned money and disappointment, Dubai Police stressed that tickets need to be purchased only from official organiser websites or approved ticketing platforms. They also point out to carefully check website links and to use only secured payment methods. And if those ticket prices are way too good to be true – that’s another huge red flag.

If you do spot a fake or suspicious website, the public is asked to report it via the Dubai Police smart app or by calling 901. You can also report it via the eCrime platform, which is dedicated to reporting cybercrime.
